Attention juniors, are you ready to take your SAT on March 2nd? The state of Indiana requires all juniors to take their SAT for certain colleges and also for colleges to compare student’s scores from across different schools.

On February 14th and the 16th, an SAT workshop class took place where students went through SAT based questions and collaborated to figure out answers. To attend the workshop, students needed to talk to the Class of 2024 guidance counselor Sheila Leonard who passed out a form to sign.

Mrs. Leonard stated that the SAT workshop is a very collaborative environment where students reported they were very engaged and focused at all times. she also said that SAT scores increase by around 100 points if you do any kind of studying.

Many seniors who didn’t seize the opportunity last year have regrets. “I would have definitely attended the workshop, I would have been more prepared for the SAT,” Evan Fugate (12) said.

Fugate thinks he could've improved his score if they had a better understanding of the questions.

A worker from iTutor.com, Eric Ursich, gave out candy such as Reese's and Snickers from the front desk. Ursich is a proven senior account executive and was hired by the district to lead the workshop class.

“I thought it was really helpful.. And that it would improve our SAT scores greatly,” Janiah Yoder (11) said.

This shows that a little bit of preparation can go a long way. If you have even a slightly better understanding of what the test questions look like, or how challenging they are you will be more confident.

The workshop is a very collaborative environment where students feel comfortable learning. For example, juniors who answered the questions correctly received candy and other sweets as a reward.

“I would rather not miss class time going to the workshop, I believe  I'm already prepared for my SAT,” Callah Council (11) said. Some juniors think that the practice isn't worth it, and that they are already well prepared for the SAT.

Overall, juniors should attend SAT practice because it will help improve your attention, confidence, and outcome on your SAT score.
