At South Side, there are two languages that can be taught to the students, French and Spanish. Over the years, clubs have been made for other students who don’t learn the language, an opportunity to learn about the culture. The French club has been a part of South Side for more than 30 years. The French teacher, Mr. Taylor Buzzard, is the club’s sponsor. Mr. Buzzard has been teaching French for 7 years.

“French Club has been happening way longer than I’ve been here,” Mr. Buzzard said.

The South Side French club has club officers who play a big part in French Club.

The French club officers are most of the time always Seniors. The officers are responsible for leading the French club meetings as well as planning them.

“I just help out with different things. I just help out where I’m needed,” Brindle said.

It takes a lot of hard work being an officer. It takes a lot of time as well as communication to make French Club happen.

“We are responsible for making the events like planning what activities we will do, what day we host it, and who’s bringing what,” Loo said.

The officers help both encourage and make sure everything runs smoothly. During the French club, French is incorporated throughout the meeting. With music and learning about French culture in general.

“During the club, we play games, do fun things and just let students interact with others,” Loo said.

Students who are involved in French Club get a chance to be around French culture as well as other students who want to learn about French.

“There’s always kind of a French focus on it and something culturally French. We always have a pumpkin decorating contest which is fun. We listen to French music and just incorporate French stuff into it,” Brindle said.

Timing of French club meetings can be found by either talking to Mr. Buzzard or he will have a reminder outside of his class room. (A209).

“We have a meeting once a month and if the month has a holiday the meeting activities are based on that holiday,” Loo said.

The French club seems to be a fun club where students can learn about French culture and hang out with others. The group activities and the meetings really bring people together as well as building bonds.
