On Tuesday January 17th, eight students represented South Side High School at the FWCS Portrait of a Graduate Workshop. This workshop took place at the Parkview Mirro Center.  This workshop is put on by Ford Next Generation Learning, a program that mobilizes educators

There have been two previous workshops, the first one being at the end of the previous school year and the second in October. Olivia Soto was the only student for the first two meetings, along with Mr. Zachary Harl, English teacher Mrs. Denise Oaks, guidance coordinator Mrs. Christina McKinnis, and Olivia Soto (11).

The goal of the Portrait of a Graduate Workshop is to create a new set plan for the students K-12, in guiding them and their parents towards graduation. Student input is very important in these meetings, so there are multiple representatives from a lot of the FWCS schools. Superintendent Dr. Mark Daniel, members from the school board, business owners, community members, teachers, and parents all attended as well.

“I voiced my opinion at my group and at my table. I learned what we were trying to do,” Mason Brindle (12) said.

“I would break up some of the bigger teams into smaller teams because I feel like the really big teams are having a hard time incorporating everyone's opinion,” Brindle said as he thoughts of ways to improve the meeting.

There are two more meetings set in place, February 13th and March 13th. Dr. Daniel wants an announcement of the plan moving forward hopefully by the end of March 2023.
