Peer Leader

2020-2021

As a peer leader I have seen improvements in my communication and leadership skills; increased knowledge of campus resources; more interaction with teachers, staff, and peers; greater engagement in critical thinking and diverse problem solving, and refined interpersonal skills. In addition, I have also gained a greater sense of belonging at Fountain Valley, gained a deeper understanding of institutional processes and governance, become more responsible, increased my appreciation of diversity, and gained awareness of professional and ethical standards.

Being a peer leader has taught to understand the importance of creating a safe space, especially for students entering an entirely new environment. For many, the transition from middle school to high school is quite challenging and it is helpful to have support and encouragement from students who have gone through that experience. That is exactly what being a peer leader means: leading by example and supporting the newest addition to our community. By being a part of the group, I have been given the opportunity of promoting tolerance and understanding even in the smallest manner. My peer leader group freshman year really pushed to achieve the best and I hope to inspire the same with the freshman of this year.
