Through the Justice Sunday Arts Initiative, the youth of the Antelope Valley are exposed to a number of experiences and opportunities. We bring together students from each of the high school sites and teach them leadership and performance skills through the writing and production of an annual black history play. The students volunteer their time over winter break to come together in order to write, produce, and perform this play every year. Every step of the way is led by the students, and guided by Justice Sunday Alumni. Their hard work doesn't end when the curtain closes; our students are given the opportunity to participate in a number of community events throughout the year.
The Alumni actively work to build a community of resources for each other, and those coming into the Justice Sunday family. Once our students graduate from high school in the Antelope Valley, we extend a hand to offer support no matter where their next step takes them. We offer support and mentorship through high school, college applications, financial aid, and scholarships; as well as overall mentorship to everyone that comes through the program.
These students are recognized on a local, state, and national level for their dedication to sharing history through performance. They also receive certificates from the state senator, assemblymen, and mayor's offices. We are honored to provide this opportunity to the youth of the Antelope Valley year after year and hope to continue to do so for years to come.
