OVERVIEW

F.U.T.U.R.E. Foundation Chicago's Southland Dollars for Scholars® mission is providing financial support to qualified applicants for skills training and college education. F.U.T.U.R.E. Foundation Chicago's South-land Dollars for Scholars is an affiliate of Scholarship America®.

In 1958, an optometrist in Fall River, Mass., had a simple but profound idea—if everyone in his community gave just a dollar to an educational fund, it would be enough to help nearly every student in the community attend college. Dr. Irving Fradkin called his plan “Dollars for Scholars,” and it has expanded into what today is the nation’s largest nonprofit, private sector scholarship and educational support organization—Scholarship America.

Scholarship America's original program, Dollars for Scholars, has united volunteers across the nation for more than 60 years. With a national network of support behind them, nearly 500 volunteer-driven Dollars for Scholars chapters work in their communities to award scholarships to local students. Dollars for Scholars helps hometown students achieve their goals by:

    • Raising funds
    • Establishing endowments
    • Providing assistance with college readiness
    • Educating students and families about the financial aid process
    • Distributing scholarships

To assist Dollars For Scholars chapters, Scholarship America provides an innovative online chapter management tool called ChapterNet. This suite of software allows chapters to build websites, manage scholarships, and reduce paperwork.

Scholarship America's Collegiate Partners program involves more than 300 colleges, universities and technical schools who have agreed to help maximize the impact of financial aid from our organization. Our Dreamkeepers program helps students stay in college when faced with an unforeseen financial emergency.
