7th Grade Science

Welcome to 7th Grade Science

I look forward to working with you this year. We will be thinking like scientists by making observations, explaining our reasoning & evidence, and testing ideas. We’ll use written articles, interactive models, and hands-on activities to reach our learning goals.

To succeed in this class, you will need to develop your skills in critical thinking, problem solving, listening, and teamwork. Our “Amplify” Science Curriculum is like a textbook you write for yourself, so note-taking skills are key. Be proactive - ask for help as you go along! Recognizing when you do and don’t understand will be a big help in science (and other) classes. Your groupmates, classmates, and I are all here to make sure we understand the content and can communicate what we have learned. Everyone can “do” and learn science - but like any skill, it will take practice.

In order to keep each other safe, and to stay focused on learning, each person should take the precaution(s) that make you feel safe in the classroom (such as hand/table sanitizing (unscented only), wearing a facemask, testing, and/or vaccination). Please respect the choices of others, as they will be expected to respect yours; each person has their own idea about how to stay safe and comfortable at school. If FUSD’s health guidelines do change, we will follow the new rules.

Treat yourself, your classmates, and your materials with respect, and I know you’ll go far.

I look forward to seeing your progress this year!

Sincerely,

Ms. Smullen
