CC Math 3/ 8th Grade Math
Mr. Trubey
Room# C219
Welcome to 8th Grade Math. The focus of the curriculum in this class will be based on the standards defined by the CCSS-M, (Common Core State Standards for Mathematics) and the CCRS-M, (College and Career Readiness Standards for Mathematics). There will also be an emphasis on the SMP, (Standards for Mathematical Practice).
Standards covered in this course include:
• Know that there are numbers that are not rational, and approximate them by rational
numbers.
• Understand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear
equations.
• Analyze and solve linear equations and pairs of simultaneous linear equations.
• Define, evaluate, and compare functions.
• Use functions to model relationships between quantities.
• Understand congruence and similarity using physical models or rigid motion
transformations and dilations.
• Understand and apply the Pythagorean Theorem.
• Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving volume of cylinders, cones, and
spheres.
• Investigate patterns of association in bivariate data.
The main text used in this course is Reveal Math Course 3. Students will have a single copy of the book for both home and classroom use. Other supplemental materials will be supplied to the students as needed.
Students will be required to keep an organized notebook or tool kit. This tool kit is designed to develop organizational skills and can become a resource to help with homework, tests and project activities.
Homework will be assigned 4-5 times per week, less, if there is a project or multiple level problem. Activities will be interspersed with fundamental skills/study. After the skills have been introduced and practiced, an activity will be assigned to allow students to use those skills to solve larger practical application, performance based problems. The activities require a logical sequence involving many math skills. Students may initially work on these problems in study groups in the classroom; however, all activities will be assessed on an individual basis through assignments, quizzes and tests.
Grading: Scoring is based on 2/3 Tests and Quizzes, 1/3 Homework and Classwork.
Cheating and plagiarism: see student handbook.
You can contact me at Horner Middle School if you have further questions or concerns please email.
CC Math 3/Algebra 1 Accelerated
Mr. Trubey
Room# C219
Welcome to the second year of a two-year accelerated program. The focus of the curriculum in this class will be based on the standards defined by the CCSS-M, (Common Core State Standards for Mathematics) and the CCRS-M, (College and
Career Readiness Standards for Mathematics). There will also be an emphasis
on the SMP, (Standards for Mathematical Practice).
Standards covered in this course include: Numerical Relationships, Equations, Geometry,
Functions, Probability & Statistics, Personal Financial Literacy, Inequalities, Extensions
of Linear Concepts, Exponents, Radicals, Polynomials and Quadratic Functions.
The two main texts used in this course are Big Ideas Algebra 1 and Reveal Math Course 3 Volume 2. Students will have a single copy of these books for both home and classroom use. Other supplemental materials will be supplied to the students as needed.

ATTENDANCE: Students are expected to attend school everyday. The FUSD goal for attendance is 95% or higher. If for some reason a student is absent, their parents must call the office explaining why they are out of school. Parents should be specific about the child’s symptoms when calling into the school so that we can code the absence appropriately and take necessary action to ensure everyone’s safety. California law requires regular attendance at school. If you are not in school regularly, there could be disciplinary actions that could result from you not attending school.
ABSENCES - UNEXCUSED
Unexcused absences are those absences that are not verified by a parent/guardian and that do not meet the California codes for excused absences. Those codes are available in the parent handbook. Unexcused absences may result in disciplinary consequences or a referral to SARB.
ABSENCES - TRUANCY: Any student who is absent from school without a valid excuse for three full days in one school year or tardy or absent for more than any 30-minute period during the school day without a valid excuse on three occasions in one school year, or any combination thereof, is a truant (Education Code 48260). After a student has been declared truant, any subsequent absences or tardiness that are unexcused will also be declared truancies. Students with excessive truancies will be reported to the district’s office of Student Support Services, and the parent will be contacted. Unresolved truancies may result in the student and parent/guardian being referred to the FUSD Student Attendance Review Board (SARB). This may also lead to a hearing held at the Fremont Police Station.
TARDINESS: Students arriving late to school after the tardy bell for period 1, should go directly to the office for a pass to class. All students are required to get a pass from the office to enter period 1 after the tardy bell rings. Students have passing time from one class to the next. Students who are not in their classrooms by the tardy bell , will be marked tardy by the teacher. Any student who arrives to period 2-6 more than 5 minutes late, will be sent to the office for a pass to explain why they were tardy to class. Students will then be admitted into their class with a late pass from the office. Students with excessive tardies will receive after school detentions.
