Mrs. Tisha L. Tinsley
Hello students, and families! I am glad to be back for our Physical Education lessons. Let's make it a great year!
ABOUT ME: Born and raised in the Bay Area, I grew up in San Jose, California. I moved out of state at age 18 on a full athletic Track and Field scholarship to the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign.
I then graduated with my B.S. Degree in Human Development/Family Studies with emphasis in Child & Adolescent Development from the University of Illinois @ Ubana-Champaign. I have worked in the private sector with my personal training business background, as well as managed, and directed fitness businesses. I continued my education by acquiring my Masters Degree in Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism Management from San Jose State University in 2009. I've continued my passion for teaching young learners grades K-12 for over 20 years now!
I'm happily married to my husband Frederick of over 9 years as well as enjoying my time chasing around my adorable loving little 4 1/2 year old daughter Genesis who is loving TK!
What to expect in Physical Education for your child/student?
B.R.A.V.E. across the curriculum for all grade levels
Brookvale strives to increase instructional time and systematic supports via PBIS. Please go over this presentation/slide deck below with your child/children as often as possible. This will greatly decrease the time the teacher will need to spend on correcting unwanted, and or negative behaviors in the Physical Education classroom :-)
If you missed BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT for P.E. please review the following google site

Students are expected to and highly encouraged to participate in all skills, fitness, and movement based curriculum according the California Physical Education State Standards. Students can be also be expected to be taught through: Tiered Re Engagement Strategies, have support to address Learning Loss, be engaged in SEL lessons (Student/teacher, Student/Student, Student/Parent communication)
* (Practicing ongoing skills, fitness and movement concepts on their own non school time to help reinforce prior discussed, and practiced lessons is highly recommended and encouraged. Anything to help your child in the learning process is a plus!)

Come to PE prepared and ready to learn! This means ensuring that your child/student has had some form of a healthy snack or meal prior to engaging in physical movment/activity, and has properly fitted athletic/tennis shoes (i.e. NO: Crocs,boots,sandals,open-toed shoes, flip flops, thong shoes, slippers or heeled or Heely shoes are permitted in PE at anytime.) All students have been notified by the teacher as of the first week of instruction to not wear those types of shoes while in PE, as they are a huge safety hazard and pose serious risk of injury while engaging in all types of movement. *Please send with your child a change of shoes should wearing other shoes to school cannot not be avoided). Grades will be affected in the column of Responsibility as it is a state standard that is graded in Physical Education per our FUSD report cards.
Recommendations to also help your child/student be more prepared for success while learning include: sending them to school with a full water bottle of water in a non-glass container or bottle, hat for sunny days outside, sunglasses that have shatter proof lenses if desired, and sunscreen for extended minutes in the sun. * all students will have access to a clean/refillable water fountain/station while in PE.
All medical excuses for PE need to be documented through the main office first, and then a copy to the PE teacher! Email to the main office will also suffice as it will be forwarded to Mrs. Tinsley prior to your child coming to PE. (Jennifer Mehta-Secretary
jmehta@fusdk12.net .) Any medical issue or injury that keeps your child out of instruction for more than 3 consecutive days needs to be documented by a licensed medical professional. *injuries and or illnesses appearing while participating in PE or prior to coming to PE during school hours will be dealt with on an individual basis and further evaluated by the school nurse.
Physical Education vs. Physical Activity:
*School physical education programs offer the best opportunity to provide physical activity to all children and to teach them the skills and knowledge needed to establish and sustain an active lifestyle.
*Physical education teachers assess student knowledge, motor and social skills, and provide instruction in a safe, supportive environment.
*Physical education should not be compared to or confused with other physical activity experiences such as recess, intramural, or recreational endeavors.
*A quality physical education program provides learning opportunities, appropriate instruction, meaningful and challenging content for all children.
