Congratulations to the Alabama legislature on passing vital IVF legislation this week. These vital protections for caregivers will help to restore the assistance that some families need to share the blessing of childbirth. Now let's get some action to protect those children when they become students. HB188 is a bill penned by Representative Collins, but the influence of the lobbyist body of superintendents of education is very much apparent in the bill. The truth of the matter, the words "due process" used in this bill are a testament to everything that is wrong with the educational system in Alabama. The bill in it's current form fortifies the current structure of single source control and ensures the local school system maintains totalitarian control. In other words, the local school system remains Accuser, Prosecutor, Judge , Jury , and Executioner for all students, no matter the violation accused. The superintendents in the room during the most recent hearing on 2/28/2024 were less than thrilled that this bill is still being considered, even though in its current form, it does little to protect the students. Get involved parents, grandparents, students......it is you who stand to have your rights removed. I am hopeful this can be resolved this legislative session, but we are going to need help. The new legislative session is beginning to heat up. After much talk regarding gambling bills and the like, it looks like we are going to get some much overdue legislative time regarding our most valuable resource....our children. Due process talks coming up in Montgomery on February 28, 2024. Should be interesting to see if we can get some traction on HB188 among others. As we approach the end of September and Fall finally seems to be upon us. Though the temperatures may be cooling, things are just heating up in schools across the nation. The campaign has begun to reach out across Alabama in an effort to rally support for our students. This effort starts with the educators, more specifically the Superintendents of each and every school district. You are the largest lobbying body in Montgomery,... what are you lobbying to change? Parents should take a look......let's see.

Are you interested yet? If you are a parent, you must be wondering how your "fundamental right to direct the upbringing" of your children was ever in question. Not to worry, I'm sure those who are directing their upbringing will notify you of any problem they discover, and promptly take action against those who are allowing it to happen. Join us in reminding the "government" and other "third parties" exactly to whom these children belong.

Working to restore 14th Amendment rights for Alabama students! - As families are preparing their children for return to school, FTFA continues to advocate for students rights. The effort to restore 14th Amendment rights has proven to be a difficult task for the Alabama legislature even after years of effort. This effort continues to stall in committee each time proposed. Interestingly the legislation has been proposed by both political parties and bills have been offered by both the House and the Senate. Perhaps it is time for Kay Ivey to draw on her past teaching experience and educate Alabama lawmakers on the importance of DUE PROCESS. HB269 - Critical Update! Alabama House unable to support Due Process Rights for students - Unfortunately it appears the Alabama House of Representatives are unable to agree on the details of this vital legislation. Terri Collins was kind enough to reach out and let us know she is still working to get all Alabama students the protection they deserve. We are still excited about this vital legislation and will be meeting with Representative Collins in July to assist in making this vital effort a reality.

Summer fun begins - The FTF team will be focusing on more than just play this summer as we continue to reach out to those in need and those most able to help. Want to help?.... When planning your family's summer getaway, make room for a friend or two. Be a mentor to youth and let them share in an experience with your family. It is a small effort today that costs very little, but a lifetime impact for all that share the experience. See you out there.

HB269 - Support for Alabama House of Representative Legislation - We are excited about this vital legislation! Protection of our future is essential and this effort is too important not to get our full an complete support. After many years of effort - distinguished member Terri Collins (Chair of the Education Policy Committee) is gaining ground in the protection of our youth! We are here to support her effort in getting this important work done. Very Exciting! More to come on this important work.
