Culturally Responsive Education

The current education system promises limitless possibilities while perpetuating deep inequities. We acknowledge that there is work to be done in order to address these inequities that exist all around us. Challenging ourselves to live by higher standards requires diligence, awareness, and courage. It is not enough to say that we are committed to social justice or creating an equitable school. We must meet the moment by committing to an antiracist education that equips every student with the knowledge and skills to create a more equitable and just world.  Antiracism and Equity Committee  2021

Equity Audit of the Frontier and Union #38 School Districts

I am pleased to announce that, after months of hard work by district staff and members of the CMSi audit team, we have received the completed CMSi Equity Audit report. This report provides an unbiased, objective review of our current practices and recommendations for next steps to ensure that all of our students are provided equal access to our schools’ high quality curriculum and programs. The audit report comes in two parts:

Next steps: The CMSi audit lead will present the findings to the joint Union #38 and Frontier School Committees on September 28th at 6:00 pm in the Frontier Media Center. Community members are invited to join this meeting in person or virtually to hear details, questions, and a summary of the audit findings.

Separate information sessions will be provided for Frontier faculty and staff on September 28th at 2:30 pm and for Union #38 faculty and staff at 3:45 pm in the Frontier auditorium.

School district faculty and staff will use the audit recommendations to create a 3-5 year plan that will build on the work we have done to date to address equity related issues. The Antiracism and Equity Committee (A&E Committee) will develop its role in this district wide plan and community members who are interested in becoming involved are encouraged to participate.  Meeting dates for the A&E committee will be shared with families once they are set.

Our goal is to ensure that all of our students have equal access to the many programs, resources, and opportunities we offer to support growth and learning. I look forward to using the recommendations from the audit report to inform and guide our equity focused work moving forward.

Sincerely,

Darius Modestow
