Secondary Professional Development Focus 2021/22
Commit to common definitions of racism and anti-racism and other identified key vocabulary to be used in the classroom. Develop a shared baseline for all teachers, then scale definitions as appropriate for grade-levels.*
Examine current curriculum with an antiracist critical lens to identify alignment and gaps with anti racist and equity goals.
In each content area, revise/expand at least one current unit to be inclusive of diverse voices, perspectives, texts and resources.
Foster critical thinking among both students and teachers by examining sources and textbooks, questioning fundamental assumptions, and applying learnings to the outside world.
Elementary Professional Development Focus 2021/22

Establish/curate a set of developmentally appropriate texts/materials (fiction, nonfiction) for diverse (including non-American authors) classroom/school libraries for each grade level (use 10 Quick Ways to Analyze Children’s Books For Racism and Sexism as a resource.)
Review the curriculum and language taught in our schools.
Find appropriate texts and lessons for teachers at each grade level to use.
Elementary Schools will examine and change the way holidays and traditions are taught as well as critically examine previous messages given about widespread racist beliefs associated with holidays. There will be a shift of focus on underrepresented perspectives and viewpoints.
