My name is Benjamin Kelly, and I am one of the band directors at Trent Middle School. I wanted to give you some information about the band program at Trent. With course selection cards due soon, we wanted you to have as much information as possible.
The Timberwolf Band is the largest organization at Trent with over 50% of incoming 6th graders choosing band as their elective. The #1 reason for all of the success that we have had is that TMS students LOVE being in band. Many say it is like being part of a REALLY large family! 6th grade is THE time to take band. Students do not need any prior musical experience to be in band, only a positive attitude! Band is an especially great place to be because it's a chance for your students to learn the value of hard work and grit! There is no instant gratification, and no ability to instantly download success on their instrument.
Here are some of the valuable life skills you will learn in band:
How to play an instrument and make music.
How to work with others as a team (there is no bench in band).
How to truly listen to music and appreciate what they are hearing
How to set goals and achieve them.
Most importantly:
Stay active in a rewarding and positive organization.
Build self-esteem and confidence in yourself.
Make lifelong friendships and have fun!!
Screening Information
Instrument Screening Day
Date: January 14th and 17th
Time: 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM and 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (by appointment)
We invite you and your child to one of our Instrument Screening Days! This is a great opportunity for your child to try out various instruments and discover their musical passion.
How it works:
Sign Up: Please sign up for an appointment using the link on our flyer or the QR code. (will be added soon)
Screening: During the 20-30 minute screening, your child will have the chance to try out different instruments with the guidance of an experienced musician.
Decision: After the screening, your child will meet with Mr. Kelly and Ms. Gamble to decide which instrument is the best fit for them!
Important Note: Even if your child didn't initially select band as their elective, we encourage you to attend the screening. Many students who initially didn't consider band have changed their minds after trying out instruments.
Please contact Mr. Benjamin Kelly, our Band Director, at 469.633.4420 or kellybe@friscoisd.org if you have any questions or need to schedule an alternative time.
We look forward to seeing you there!
