Mission: Positively impact and advance each student every day.
Vision: Foster one's greatest potential.
Mrs. Friedman's lesson on Newton's Third Law of Motion aligns with Vandeventer Middle School's vision statement, "to foster one’s greatest potential," by engaging students in a hands-on and collaborative activity. The tug-of-war demonstration provides a practical example of action and reaction forces, helping students connect theoretical concepts to real-world applications.

2 Words Character Lessons via Athletics
2Words is a video-based, character development curriculum. It's designed for coaches and written for secondary athletes across all sports. Boys and Girls Athletics will provide character lessons once a week during the athletic class period.
This Week's Focus:
"The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime." Babe Ruth
Ticketing
All tickets to athletic events hosted at FISD venues (including Ford Center and Toyota Stadium) must be purchased online. No tickets are available at the front entrances, but tickets can be purchased up through game time using the ticketing website. Visit tickets.friscoisd.org to purchase season passes and individual tickets.
Mental Health Awareness
Each year, FISD middle schools administer the Safe Schools Survey to 8th grade students to evaluate the needs of each campus. A topic of concern for our campus was related to the warning signs of anxiety and depression. Although this survey in no way determines that a person has anxiety or depression, we thought it would be helpful to provide a Mental Health Awareness Presentation for students that includes coping strategies. This presentation was created by our VMS counselors and will be shared on Monday, December 9th.
Parents may preview the presentation here.

Small World Angel Tree
On behalf of the entire Vandeventer Middle School community, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your incredible generosity in supporting the Small World Angel Tree initiative. Your thoughtful donations of gifts have brought joy and hope to children and families in need this holiday season.
The spirit of giving displayed by our VMS families exemplifies the values we strive to instill in our students—compassion, kindness, and a commitment to making a positive impact. It is inspiring to witness how our community comes together to support one another and spread joy.
Thank you for helping make this initiative a success and for being such a vital part of our mission to foster a supportive and caring environment. Your contributions make a meaningful difference, not only to the recipients but also in showing our students the power of giving back.
Wishing you and your family a joyful and peaceful holiday season! VMS Counselors
"If you are interested in connecting with another family who speaks the same language as you, please fill out this form. At the end of October, we will share your information with any family that indicated the same language. For example, if you wrote that you speak Chinese, I will share the information you provided with other Chinese speakers. If you wrote Farsi, I will only share it with Farsi speakers."

Congratulations, Pranav!
If you need to drop off something for your student, you will need to check in at the front office. To minimize classroom disruptions, we will only deliver glasses, house keys, and money to students during instructional time. All other items will be left on the shelf on the front office. Parents will be responsible for emailing their student that the item has been left in the front office for pick-up.
As a reminder, we do not release students between 3:30 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. If you need to check out your student early, please do so before 3:30 p.m. Regular carpool expectations apply for students being pick up after 3:30 p.m. Parents may not pick up students from the front parking lot from 3:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Parents/guardians will be allowed to eat lunch with their student(s). Below are the guidelines:
24 hour notice required
complete this form to schedule a lunch visitation
bring food for your student(s) only; food sharing is not allowed
check-in at the front office to receive a visitor badge

Accessing Class Curriculum Outlines
Frisco ISD parents can access the curriculum outline and pacing guides used Districtwide for each core course. District educators create and revise the curriculum outlines each year which is rooted in the statewide curriculum standards provided by the Texas Education Agency, called the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
Parents and guardians new to gifted & talented, this informational session will detail FISD K - 12 gifted and talented services, including screening, identification, and curriculum. The webinar will be from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.. on Dec. 12th. Register here.
School closures are sometimes necessary to ensure the safety of Frisco ISD students and staff. FISD makes a final decision about whether to open schools no later than 5:30 a.m. each school day.
Frisco ISD will notify families via email and text. Parents and staff can subscribe to FISD text messages by texting “Y” or “Yes” to 67587. The District and campus websites will also be updated with alerts of school closures, as well as the District’s Facebook and X accounts. Learn more.
Why Attendance Matters
Here are three key reasons why student attendance is crucial:
Academic Achievement: Regular attendance keeps students on track with lessons and assignments, leading to better understanding and improved grades.
Skill Development: Consistent attendance builds essential skills like reading, writing, and problem-solving, which are vital for long-term success.
Socialization: Regular school attendance allows students to interact with peers, fostering important social skills such as teamwork, communication, and empathy.
Frisco ISD is committed to our students' success and looks forward to seeing everyone at school every day!
The Bella Voce & Tenor Bass Choirs performed at Anderson Elementary on Thursday, December 5th. Afterwards, they spotted some 1st grade VIPs from Mrs. Wren´s class wearing their Vandeventer Choir t-shirts! Go Vikings!

After several years as a teacher and coach, she obtained her master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of North Texas and continued in Irving as a middle school assistant principal. In 2006, she transitioned to Dallas ISD where she worked in various leadership roles until moving to the Frisco area. The 2024-2025 school-year marks Ms. Taylor's sixth year as the Vandeventer Middle School principal.
