Administrative Information
PTA needs your support to make great things happen at Vandeventer this year! Our school-wide fundraising goal of $20,000 will cover our basic budget for Student Socials, Teacher Appreciation, Kickball Tournament, 8th Grade T-Shirts, HERO Student Incentives, End of Year Celebration and our Sound System Subscription. Any additional funds will be put to good use right here on our campus.
Vikings, prepare for battle! We will celebrate reaching our goal with an All-School Shaving Cream Battle. It’s going to be wet, messy and so much fun! Donate this week using one of the three methods below to gift our students a year of enrichment and lasting memories. Don't forget Corporate Matching and Family Contributions help us reach our goal even faster!
GoFundMe https://gofund.me/bba97a4e
We’ve switched to GoFundMe for nonprofits. It costs PTA 2.2% + $0.30 processing per transaction - significantly less than the 7% typically charged by school fundraising platforms.
CHECK
No fees, 100% of your money goes directly to PTA. Make checks payable to VMS PTA and drop in the main office by Friday, August 25th.
MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT
Bring a check, cash or scan the GoFundMe link Tuesday at Meet the Teacher night. We’ll also be selling yard signs and PTA memberships.
Thank you for always supporting our Vikings!

Trustees approved the 2023-24 Student Code of Conduct at the regular August Board meeting. Families need to be aware of the updated consequences for vapes, fighting, and getting high on campus. There is a mandatory 10-day disciplinary placement for students who use or possess any portion of a vape on or within 300 feet of school property of a school-related activity. In addition, students who have a substance that can get them high such as hemp, CBD, THC or Delta-8 will receive a 45-day disciplinary placement. Please talk with your children about the very serious consequences. More information can be found here. Parents are also encouraged to view this video highlighting the updates.

Specialized Supports
Please refer to the District Guidance and Counseling Resource page for information related to specialized supports for families.
Report Concerns: STOPit
As a reminder, students and parents can report incidents of bullying or harassment online using our District’s anonymous reporting system called STOPit. Learn about STOPit and how to report. Our students will receiving a guided lesson next week on how to reporting concerns with STOPit.
FISD collaborates with the City of Frisco, City of McKinney, Town of Little Elm, and the City of Plano Police and Fire/EMS to keep our schools safe. As partners, safety is a top priority, and our campus relies on the continued support of students, parents, and the community to keep schools safe. By submitting a report, campus administrators receive a notification regarding student and parent concerns.
Your Words Matter
Frisco ISD collaborates with local police to keep schools safe. We urge parents to remind their children that words matter and can have serious consequences. https://youtu.be/aEY6FaSC6EE. Our students will receive the Your Words Matter guided lesson during advisory class in the coming days.

Frisco ISD teachers offer weekly online tutorials in the evenings, saving parents time and money that might otherwise be spent on outside tutors. These tutorials are designed to further support our students and campus teachers, who are available for in-person assistance. Talk to your child about whether this opportunity may be a helpful option to support their learning. Find the full list of subjects and tutorial dates/times here.
The community folder on the District website contains information about goods and services that may interest the FISD community. You can find everything from discounts on kids’ camps to volunteer opportunities.
Frisco ISD has a long-standing partnership with local police departments to ensure students can focus on their studies in a safe environment. At Vandeventer Middle School, we are thankful for Student Resource Officer Josh Harris. Officer Harris serves our campus through the Frisco Police Department.
Frisco ISD parents can access the curriculum outline and pacing guides used Districtwide for each core course. The curriculum outlines are created and revised each year by District educators and are rooted in the statewide curriculum standards provided by the Texas Education Agency, called the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS.)
Each FISD campus has several supports in place to ensure each student receives personalized attention and assistance to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The comprehensive MTSS webpage has resources to empower staff and parents with valuable information about the different tiers of support to enhance collaboration between schools and families. Please explore the valuable resources and information aimed at empowering families to make informed decisions.
Beginning, September 5th, parents/guardians will be allowed to eat lunch with their student(s); however, we are asking for a 24 hour advance notification by completing this form. There will be a maximum of 2 visitors/family per lunch per day on a first come first serve basis. Campus office staff will provide an email confirmation to the requestor if the lunch reservation is approved. The requestor MUST receive this email confirmation to redeem the reservation on the date/time requested. All visitors must check-in at the front office upon arrival. Visitors may only bring lunch for their student.
Please help ease the carpool congestion by following the guidelines provided in the diagrams below. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Additional suggestions:
1. Alter pick-up time later when there are less vehicles in the carpool lane
2. Rideshare with a friend or neighbor
All absences, both excused and unexcused, count toward the state’s compulsory attendance law. When a student's attendance drops below 90% but remains at least at 75% of the days the class is offered, the student may earn credit for the class or a final grade by completing a plan approved by the principal. All absences can be easily submitted in the form at the top of our campus website (see below). Learn more about the attendance policy.
FISD Board Policy requires that each volunteer, chaperone, and/or mentor undergo a background check before working with students. Frisco ISD uses VOLY, a volunteer management system, to complete background checks and to post volunteer opportunities. To work with students on campus, you will need to create a VOLY account by visiting https://friscoisd.voly.org.
You will be prompted to complete the background check during your VOLY account creation process. Keep an eye on your inbox for your background check approval (the process can take up to 3-5 business days). VOLY will send you customized e-mails with opportunities that may interest you for volunteering. Volunteers must complete a background check once every year.
If you need help, email volunteer@friscoisd.org, call 469-633-6860 or complete a ticket through the VOLY support system.
