The VMS ESL Department partnered with Stonebriar Church to provide EB families with some Thanksgiving items. For some of our families, this will be their first Thanksgiving in the United States!
Our campus is beginning to see signs of illness. With that being said, please do not send your student to school if they have a fever. Doing so, puts your student as well as other students and faculty at risk. A fever, per our district policy is defined as a temperature of 100 degrees or above. In order to return to school, a student must be fever free without the use of fever-reducing medications for 24 hours before they can return. Protect yourself and your loved ones by doing the following:
Taking a flu shot
Washing your hands frequently or using hand sanitizer
Stay home when you are sick
Covering your cough
Let’s keep flu and other illnesses out of school!

This poster was made by one of our students with Epilepsy to bring about more awareness and education about seizures.
Epilepsy is a brain disorder that causes seizures, which is a change in the normal brain activity. It is important to remember that these are seizures NOT caused by something like a high fever, however you should always communicate with your primary care provider when one occurs even if it is a first-time occurrence.
1 in 26 people in the United States will have epilepsy at some point in their life
1 in 10 Americans will have a seizure
5.1 million people in the United States have been diagnosed with epilepsy or a seizure disorder and of this amount, 3.4 million American adults and children live with epilepsy
60% of epilepsy cases have no known cause
30-40% will live with active seizures because available treatments do not work
Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States.
Management involves monitoring several components of everyday living.
Diabetes doesn’t discriminate and can affect all ages of people worldwide.

After several years as a teacher and coach, she obtained her master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of North Texas and continued in Irving as a middle school assistant principal. In 2006, she transitioned to Dallas ISD where she worked in various leadership roles until moving to the Frisco area.
