Friends Institute for New Administrators of Color 2020

As a female of color in education, there have not been many mirrors for me. It is incredibly powerful to be in a space full of so many powerful leaders whose stories are unique and yet so familiar. Since our identities are both part of what drive us to do the work and raise questions within us and around us, being able to speak openly about our hopes, dreams, and yes, even fears, helped me gain a sense of belonging and inclusion that has not always been present.

As independent schools commit to diverse student bodies and faculties, we see school leadership becoming more racially diverse as well. Friends Academy welcomes new administrators of color for a week of mutual support and training. A team of independent school leaders of color will help you strategize for a successful first year. Topics will include institutional culture, self-care, and navigating leadership as people of color. The program is specifically designed to give participants the tools they need to be effective change agents within their schools.
