2021 Season Detail: A cool growing season for the Upper Moutere area with average rainfall. The harvest period had average rainfall with night temperatures quite cool. The harvest was later than normal across all varietals, with some markedly late in achieving aroma targets. Aromas were highly expressive at harvest and quality was excellent.
Sunrise Valley Terroir: Clay rich loam and river gravels at the head of Nelson's iconic Moutere Valley make up our soils. The maritime microclimate of the valley has exceptionally high UV levels relative to growing degree days. When combined with the excellent diurnal temperature range, it allows us to develop outrageous levels of aromatic compounds in our hops.
