What Does Outreach Do?

FRC is more than robots. In the Outreach department, we mainly focus on volunteering, educating, and inspiring.  Throughout our small community, we find events searching for volunteers and often fill this need, allowing events to run smoothly. With mutiple organizations running into issues, on multiple occasions we have been requested and showed up the next day. In many cases, we're welcomed to simultaneously educate our community about STEM at said events. We recognize the value of exposing groups to a field that can open a world of doors for them.

Coding for Cookies

In April of 2022, our team was attempting to find new ways to welcome young women into STEM. From this, an idea was born. Cookies, as explained in our home page, is a K-12 initiative that introduces Girl Scouts to STEM with hands-on learning. We reach out to Girl Scout troops from surrounding areas and then welcome them into our facilities. 4607 uses our resources and hosts these sessions while teaching them to program an FLL robot, drive an FTC robot, and learn about an FRC robot's mechanics (the challenges can vary with age level). By allowing our students to work with these Girl Scouts, a two-way road of benefit is formed. The Girl Scouts learn about how to program robots and gain exposure to FIRST, and our members practice leadership skills which pave the way for their futures.
