FES Summer Update - August 5th, 2024

Dear FES Staff & Families, 

A lot has been happening at school since you left for summer vacation. Here are some of the highlights we wanted to share with you:

• Playground: The installation of the new playscape is complete and ready to enjoy! Cole Orsini was excited to show you how much fun you'll have at recess now. 

• Updated Student Furniture: In July, New London Public Schools generously provided free furniture for students and teachers. We were able to secure two 20-ft truckloads of items for our classrooms!  Tyler, Brian, and Gary did an outstanding job transporting and moving everything we selected. 

• Learning Spaces: All classroom moves are complete, and cleaning/updating are underway. Tyler, Brian, Gary, and Makaila are working hard to ensure your learning spaces are ready for your return! 

• Main Office and Cafeteria: Joanne and Mary in the main office have been diligently supporting our newly enrolled and returning families while preparing everything teachers and students need for a successful start to the 2024-2025 school year.  Additionally, Joanne has been getting the cafeteria ready for FES to operate independently again. 

We can't wait for you to experience all the exciting changes when you return!

School Community Events:

• August 14th - Join us for a meet and greet with our new FES Superintendent, Denise Grant, and new Principal, Jenny Pinto, on Wednesday, August 14th, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at FES. This is a great opportunity to welcome them to our community and learn more about their vision for the upcoming school year. We look forward to seeing you there! 

• August 26 & 27 - Professional Development Days (8:30 am - 3:00 pm)

• August 27 - Kindergarten Orientation and Bus Ride (2:00 - 2:45 pm)

• August 28, 2024 - First Day of School for K- 8 students! (1 pm Dismissal)

• Preschool 

Orientation:

• • • Monday/Wednesday Class: Wednesday, August 28th

    • Tuesday/Thursday Class: Thursday, August 29th

Parents and their children are invited at 10:00 a.m. to visit the preschool classroom, learn about more about the program, and enjoy a few activities.

First Days of School:

• • • All age 4 students: Friday, August 30th

    • Tuesday/Thursday Class - age 3 & 4 students: Tuesday, September 3rd

    • Monday/Wednesday Class - age 3 & 4 students: Wednesday, September 4th

FES News and Updates:

• Welcome letters and supply lists are now posted on our website.

• Please continue to email FESOffice@franklinschoolct.org regarding new enrollments, FES questions, residency questions, record requests, attendance, tardies, transportation changes, and absences.  

• Throughout the summer, we will keep you informed of school updates/news, events, teacher assignments, staff introductions, and other essential information you need to kickstart the 2024-2025 academic year. Our summer office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8:00 am -12 pm. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions.
