UIL Academic competitions exist to complement the academic curriculum, are designed to motivate students as they acquire higher levels of knowledge, to challenge students to confront issues of importance and to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of specific skills. Students are challenged to think critically and creatively, exhibiting much more than knowledge and comprehension.
Students undertake the responsibilities of managing sections of the book, choosing photographs to fill those sections, and participating actively in sales promotions, ad campaigns, and yearbook distributions. Students also use the most current computer techniques to produce a camera-ready yearbook. Materials must be prepared on time each year to meet a series of deadlines that span from September to May.
