Diary of a leprechaun

By: Amarveer S.

March 1, 2020

Hi, my name is Patrick. I’m a leprechaun. My job is to hide gold. The thing is, the magic of St. Patrick’s Day is fading away. See, the problem is that people don’t think this is a real holiday. To me, this is the most important day of the year!! I really love this holiday with all my heart!

March 2, 2020

Last night, I was supposed to hide a pot of gold. Apparently, I lost it! I know, you’re probably wondering, how do you lose a pot of gold? See, while I was eating Lucky Charms, my dog grabbed the pot of gold by its handle and ran outside. Since morning, I have been looking for it outside. The thing is, if my “Leprechaun Boss” finds out about this, I will lose my job. I don’t want that to happen. I plan to spend all day looking for the pot of gold!

March 4, 2020

I’m so tired!! I dug through the entire backyard, and still couldn’t find A SINGLE THING! I’m super scared. Our “boss” is no joke. We don’t only get fired, we lose our Leprechaun License, which means we can’t work for anybody else!! It’s all my fault! I shouldn’t have left the pot of gold on the counter! Now I will lose my job forever!!!!

March 5, 2020

I finally found the pot of gold!! Turns out it was under my bed! The dog must have snuck the pot of gold back inside. Now, I just have to find a good place, to hide the pot of gold. Now my LIFE AND JOB IS SAVED!!!

March 6, 2020

I’ve been researching a good place to hide the pot of gold. Turns out the best location to hide a pot of gold is in the middle of an apple orchard. Tomorrow, I will hide the pot of gold, and write my report for extra credit from our boss. This is going to be the best St, Patrick’s Day ever!!!!

March 15, 2020

I’ve been super busy lately. Our boss has given us more pots of gold to hide. Also many more work assignments. I can’t wait for tomorrow!! I’m super excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What Franklin School is Going to Do if the Coronavirus Reaches Yuba City

By: Ayla M., Reagan M., & Megan P.

Franklin Elementary School is in touch with state & federal public health officials. The health departments are giving us guidance to keep our students, employees, and community safe. The situation is fluid and we will respond right away if the situation changes, and puts our staff and students in critical danger.

Our staff will continue the procedures of cleaning our facilities. We will also continue to follow the practices as they are identified. Our staff has increased the amount of times we clean our school in a week.

We will also continue to keep up the sanitary rules for staff. These rules include frequent hand-washing, sanitizing desks and surfaces, and advising sick students and staff to stay home. Students and staff members are not advised to come back to school until their symptoms go away for at least a whole 24 hours.

Lastly, we will continue to follow the rules of the federal officials. If anything where to change we would immediately take action to any changes that may come to our attention. Franklin school will also continue to keep parents and students notified.

Junior Olympics 2020 Featuring Erica P.

By: Emilee N.

This year, a 7th grader named Erica P. was in the Swimming Junior Olympics in Vacaville California. She left for the Junior Olympics on Friday March 6th at 6 in the morning.

She decided to join the team and be included in the Junior Olympics because when she was little she had fallen in a pool, almost drowning. After that her parents decided to have her try swimming and that is where it all started.

Erica said “It was a lot of hard work, five days a week for two hours. Oh and on Saturdays for 3 hours on dry land and swimming in pools.” She had also said it was difficult. So I asked her on a scale from 1-10 how hard it was. She replied with 8.

Erica got an outstanding number of 7 metals total! She swims for California Capital Aquatics in Roseville. She says that there were no teams from other states, just different teams from California.

School Changes for Next Year

By: Laela T.

Every year our principal, Mrs. Shelton, makes changes to our school. Her and the Parent Club make a goal for what to change and I am going to share those goals with you for the next school year.

The changes our school makes are important because they keep our school going. If a light breaks in a classroom and we don’t fix it, then none of the students will be able to see what is on the board so then they can’t learn.

“I would like to do facility projects,” said Mrs. Shelton. The facility projects that she wants to get done are getting a new overhang near room 5 because it is rotting out, she wants to continue to have a safe and clean campus, and she would like to provide counseling sessions for students. Also, she would like to see students do well in school and be academically and socially better in school.

Those are our school's goals for the next year to change things and do better in school.

6th Grade Students Want Gaga Ball

By: Krish G.

After the sixth grade students came back from Shady Creek Outdoor Science Camp, all of the students showed a great interest in Gaga ball. This interest has been a sudden thing that all sixth grade students have taken part in.

One of the sixth grade students, Garrett F., a kid who chooses to stay inside during recess because of lack of excitement in the equipment, said that he would go outside more if a Gaga Ball court was provided which would increase physical activity. Garrett F. also believes that Gaga Ball would be a great alternative for dodge-ball which is a game that no Franklin students are allowed to play.

Another sixth grade student, Brandon F. believes that a Gaga Ball court would be good “that way kids that have been to Shady Creek can still enjoy and people who haven’t can learn.” Some people argue that where would we put it, but Brandon F. thinks that we could put it by the 4-8 grade play structure that way it is out of the way.

Gaga Ball is a game that is similar to dodge-ball. It is just like it except you hit the ball on the ground and it has to hit the person at the knee or below.

All in all, the sixth grade kids want Gaga Ball.
