Welcome to Hook Lane!
We look forward to welcoming you and your child to our school and we have a wealth of activities to ensure you are both supported in transition to Reception:
Tuesday 16th June @ 2pm - Parent Information Meeting
Each year we hold an introductory meeting for parents only. In this meeting we will give you important information about your child starting school and what you might expect in the first few weeks. There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and meet the team.
Wednesday 24th June - 1.45pm to 2.45pm - Parent & Child Classroom Visit
We would like to invite you and your child to spend some time in the classroom. This will offer you both the opportunity to familiarise yourselves with the staff and the learning environment, meet other parents and children and ask any further questions you may have. Staff will meet you at the main school gate (Faraday Road).
Wednesday 1st July from 1.30pm to 3pm - Children Classroom Visit
The children are invited into school, by themselves. They will spend the time in their classrooms with their teachers to enable them to feel more confident about starting school on their first day. They will also get the opportunity to meet their Year 6 buddy! These are children who are in Year 5 at the moment but next year will maintain a special relationship with your children, regularly working with them, reading with them and supporting their smooth transition into Hook Lane. Staff will meet you at the main school gate (Faraday Road) and escort you to the reception playground gates, where you can leave the children with their teacher.
Wednesday 1st July from 3pm to 4pm - Stay & Play
An optional fun opportunity for children and parents to explore the new EYFS outdoor area together, after collecting your child from the Classroom Visit at 3pm. A great way to enjoy some playtime together.
Additionally, we will be carrying out home visits so that we can find out as much as possible about your child to enable them to settle in without difficulty when they start school, and for us to gather any information we will need to know about dietary requirements, religious practices, etc. We find that children love to meet their teacher in their own familiar surroundings, and it will allow you some one-to-one time with the class teacher to answer any questions you may still have specifically relating to your child. We will be in touch about the specifics in due course.
Do talk to us about any fears or worries you have, however small or trivial they may seem. We want the same as you do for your child: for them to have a happy and successful start to their school life.
