Message from the Farmington Board of Education
Farmington is an exceptional school district with outstanding faculty, staff, administrators, students and families. Since beginning the search process, the Board of Education has taken the Superintendent Search process seriously, ensuring confidentiality, thoroughness in vetting candidates and high expectations in the identification of our new Superintendent.
We wanted to ensure we find not only a candidate that meets the expectations of the Farmington community, but also a candidate with the qualifications required in Connecticut and in Farmington to be our next Superintendent. To that end, we have not yet identified a candidate that meets the criteria our community and the Board of Education have set.
To ensure continuity of improvement and excellence within the Farmington Public Schools, our current Superintendent has agreed to remain as an Interim Superintendent until the time we select and appoint a Superintendent and that individual begins in our school district. We thank Kathy for her willingness to remain on until the new Superintendent’s start date.
Sincerely,
The Farmington Board of Education

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Who is leading the search for Farmington’s next Superintendent?
The Farmington Board of Education will serve as the Superintendent Search Committee. In recent years, it has become best practice for the school board to take on this responsibility to protect confidentiality and avoid potential legal challenges. However, the Board is committed to hearing from all stakeholders and encourages community participation through surveys and focus groups.
What values are guiding the search?
Confidentiality
To attract high-quality candidates and respect their current positions, confidentiality is essential. Connecticut law allows that all aspects of the search process remain private.
Communication
Open and clear communication between the Board and our consulting team is key to ensuring a smooth process. While public interest in the search is high, it’s crucial to maintain a coordinated approach to avoid misinformation. To achieve this, a designated Board spokesperson will serve as the primary liaison, ensuring consistent and accurate communication.
Stewardship
As stewards of the school system and the broader community, Board members are entrusted with making decisions that serve the best interests of all children. Selecting the next superintendent is one of the Board’s most significant responsibilities, and they are fully committed to identifying a leader who will uphold Farmington’s tradition of excellence.
