SUMMER READING!

Dear FPS Community,

Hooray for summer! It is almost upon us and that means it’s time to start thinking about summer reading! As educators, our desire is for our students to maintain an authentic reading life over the summer. We want them to read every day and to read for the joy and fun of it!

The Farmington Library is working on some exciting programming, book lists, and displays - and they are looking forward to seeing everyone in the children’s department this summer! They also LOVE giving book suggestions, so please stop in to chat with them!

Please click here to visit the Farmington Library’s summer reading website and register for their summer reading program titled: Dragons, Dreams, and Daring Deeds. When students register, they will keep track of the number of days they read and enter it online. For every 7 days they read, students will earn a ticket for their chance to win one of several prize baskets.  They will also earn chances to earn a free book and spin the special prize wheel at the library! If you or your child are unable to access the internet over the summer, simply keep track of the number of days your child reads, give it to the Farmington Library, and they will enter the data for you so your child can still participate!

The Farmington elementary schools will not be handing out reading trackers this summer. Instead, we want everyone to focus on reading every day, reading for fun and learning, and tracking their reading through the Farmington Library’s summer reading program. Our K-4 teachers will set the expectation that all students return in the fall ready to talk about and celebrate their summer reading. Schools will also receive summer reading data from the library at the end of the summer.

Please visit the FPS K-6 summer site (available on June 10th) for students which includes loads of amazing resources for reading, writing, mathematics, science, STEM, and more!

Please contact your school’s library media specialist if you have any questions!

Thank you!
