Meet the Teacher – Years 1 to 6

Thursday 10 September, 3.15pm–5.00pm

We would love to welcome parents and carers of children in Years 1 to 6 into school for our Meet the Teacher afternoon.

Please come along with your child to meet their new class teacher, spend some time in their classroom and see where their learning will take place this year. It is also a lovely opportunity for your child to proudly show you their new learning environment.

Teachers will be available to share helpful information about the year ahead, including classroom routines, learning and expectations. You will also be able to ask any questions and begin building that important relationship with your child’s teacher.

We hope as many families as possible will be able to join us. We look forward to welcoming you into school.

Changes to Homework – Years 1 to 6

We know that the start of a new school year brings new routines for the whole family. To help make homework arrangements clear and consistent, homework for children in Years 1 to 6 will now be set every Thursday and should be completed by the following Monday.

Each week, homework will include:

• Maths: Activities set online using the MyMaths platform.

• Spellings: A spelling list to practise at home in preparation for a spelling test the following week.

• Reading: Children should read at least three times each week, with an adult signing their reading record each time.

Children who complete all elements of their homework will receive a reward to celebrate their effort, commitment and positive attitude towards learning.

Your encouragement at home makes such a valuable difference to your child’s confidence and progress. Thank you for helping your child to develop positive homework and reading habits. If your child experiences any difficulties accessing or completing their homework, please speak to their class teacher—we are always happy to help.

Important Changes to First Aid and Parent Reporting

The care, safety and wellbeing of our children are always our highest priorities. We have updated our first aid and parent reporting procedures to make communication with families clearer and more consistent.

We are introducing a new colour-coded wristband system in school. If your child receives first aid during the school day, their wristband will help you understand the nature of the incident and how school has responded:

• Green wristband – Very minor: This may be given for a small graze, superficial cut, tiny bruise or minor knock. The incident will always be recorded in school, but you will not usually receive a separate message.

• Yellow wristband – Concerning: This will be given when an injury is visible, requires more than minimal treatment or needs continued monitoring. We will let you know by text, telephone or when you collect your child, depending on the circumstances.

• Blue wristband – Significant or potentially serious: This will be used for injuries involving the head, face, eyes, teeth, neck or back, or for another potentially serious incident. A first aider will contact you promptly by telephone and provide any relevant advice or information. We will not wait until the end of the school day to contact you.

Please be reassured that every incident where first aid is provided will continue to be recorded internally on the same day, and children will always receive the care and support they need.

For children in Nursery and Reception, parents and carers will continue to be informed about any accident, injury or first aid treatment on the same day, or as soon as reasonably practicable, in line with Early Years requirements.

Please look out for your child’s wristband at the end of the day. If you have any questions or would like further information about an incident, please speak to a member of staff—we will always be happy to help.

Our New House System

We are delighted to introduce our new Foxhill house system, which will bring children from Reception to Year 6 together as part of four very special house families.

Each house is named after a celebrated literary figure:

• Dahl

• Brontë

• Andersen

• Carroll

Our new house system will give children of all ages opportunities to get to know one another, work as a team and celebrate each other’s successes. Children will be able to earn points for their house through their effort, achievements, positive choices and contributions to school life.

We hope every child will feel a strong sense of belonging and pride in their house. We cannot wait to see each house develop its own identity and to enjoy plenty of teamwork, friendly competition and shared celebrations throughout the year.
