English Language Arts News

Next week we’re finishing up the Poetry Unit with the Unit 5 Poetry Test on March 15th. We will review in class on Monday and Tuesday to prepare for the test.

After the test on Wednesday, we will complete another timed writing practice to prepare for Milestones and then begin our Research Unit to build background knowledge before reading The Outsiders. Students will complete a short research project in small groups and present their project on March 23rd and 24th.

After Spring Break, we will be starting our novel study of the year. Students will be reading The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton. If possible, we would like all students to have their own copy of the novel, as explained in the syllabus at the beginning of the school year. The novel can be found on Amazon, Thriftbooks, and in most bookstores. Students will receive reminders about this closer to April.

Recent and Upcoming Summatives:

Enrichment News

7th grade Enrichment is gearing up for March Madness! Over the next two weeks, we will be introducing two books a day to the students (by reading summaries and watching book trailers). The students will vote for their favorite book to move on to the next round -- until we have an overall winner! Read-a-Thon funds are allowing us to purchase some of the students’ favorite books for our classroom libraries.  We are so excited to add to our collections with high-interest, student chosen books. Find out what book will win the 7th grade March Madness Championship in our next newsletter!

Science News

Students are currently learning about Evolution through Natural Selection – the idea that those that are the best fit for the environment will survive and reproduce.  They will also look at evidence that evolution has occurred by learning about fossils and comparing skeletal structures.  They may even get an opportunity to explore the idea that whales used to walk!  Some classes will also be awaiting results of who is winning in the battles during March Mammal Madness!  You can expect an Evidence of Evolution quiz later during the week of March 13 and the Evolution Test to be given on March 22.  Please check itslearning for details for your child’s specific class.

Social Studies News

As we continue our journey in social studies, we are excited that we are exploring the rich history of South and East Asia in our ongoing unit. From the ancient civilizations of India and China to the modern-day economies of Japan and South Korea, this unit provides your child with a fascinating glimpse into the history and culture of these vibrant regions. We will be administering summative assessments for this unit on this material the week of March 13th.

We hope your child has enjoyed learning about the history and culture of South and East Asia as much as we enjoy teaching it. Thank you for your continued support in your child's education.
