Physical Science and Chemistry
Event Captain:
Meeting Times
Welcome to the Physical Science and Chemistry page! Here, we experiment with the motion and interactions of physical and even invisible particles and how they shape our understanding of the magnificent universe around us.
You will be able to find descriptions and resources regarding your event, a link to GroupMe specifically for this category, and other information you may find important on this page. If you have any questions, reach out to our event captains.
Physical Science Events
Optics - Students must participate in an activity involving positioning mirrors to direct a laser beam toward a target and are tested on their knowledge of geometric and physical optics.
Air Trajectory - Prior to the competition, participants will design, construct, and calibrate a single device capable of launching projectiles onto a target and collect data regarding device parameters and performance.
Wind Power - Participants construct a blade assembly device prior to the tournament that is designed to capture wind power and complete a written test on the principles of alternative energy.
Detector Building - Participants will build a durable ORP or Redox Probe that will accurately measure and display both voltage and the concentrations of NaCl in parts per million from 0 to 5000 ppm of different water samples.
Chemistry Events
Chem Lab - Participants will complete one or more tasks and answer a series of questions involving the science processes of chemistry focused in the areas of Periodicity and Equilibrium.
Forensics - Given a scenario and some possible suspects, students will perform a series of tests. These tests, along with other evidence or test results, will be used to solve a crime.
