Consider Your Own Network of Family/Friends.
Local Non-Profits - often have a huge need for help with marketing, IT, etc.
Check the Chamber of Commerce - Business Directory https://web.focochamber.org/search.
Finally, don’t forget the FCS Student Job Board http://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/jobboard - Businesses looking to hire students often list job openings here.
Work with Career Development Coordinator. Remember, we take a summer break as well.
Visit potential businesses where you’d like to work/intern to explore local options.
Dress professionally and introduce yourself.
Provide a copy of your resume and explain why you are dropping by.
Always address business employees as Mr. or Ms. or Dr.; not by their first names.
Know approximately how many hours you will need to work each week when school begins for credit...
5 hours-1 Period / 10 hours-2 Periods / 15 hours-3 Periods - Weekend hours count!
Follow-up after your visit. Thank them for their time and consideration.
Check your email and voicemail for messages from businesses. Make sure your voicemail is not full.
Placement Timeline:
You will have until school begins to obtain an Internship placement.
Students not placed will have their schedules changed to remove the these periods.
New interns will attend the May orientation for all students in the district who have been selected.
All interns will attend the AAI orientation which is typically hosted the day before school begins.
All students will complete an official Intake Packet with their parents and mentors/employers in August.
