Mrs. Whittington's Kindergarten

Welcome!!

Welcome to my class! My name is Erica Whittington. I earned my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University. I earned my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Walden University. This is my 7th year teaching Kindergarten at Garfield. Outside of school, I enjoy camping, all things Cub/Boy Scouts, catching a Cubs game, and generally spending time with my family. We are lucky to have a full time classroom assistant, Mrs. Chantal McDonald. This year will be very exciting for your child. They will learn how to be a student, to persevere, and problem solve while learning to read (yes read), write words from the sounds they've learned, write sentences, count, add, and subtract. I look forward to helping my students grow academically and emotionally. Feel free to contact me at ewhittington@forestparkschools.org if you have any questions or concerns. It will be a great year!

Welcome 2020-2021 Kindergarten class! I can't wait to meet you at the start of the year. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your children this year!! One other thing before you come to school for the first day....a can't miss book to read or find on youtube is The Night Before Kindergarten by Natasha Wing.

Stay tuned for Kindergarten registration!

I hope you are enjoying the summer! Learning can happen all the time. Make your child aware of signs around you. Environmental print is a great way to teach your child letters and words. Make sure you visit the Forest Park Library and get involved in their Summer Reading Program. Check out books often and read 20 minutes a day. Counting is a great foundational skill that can be worked on this summer. One to one coorespondance is very important. When counting, the children should touch one thing as they say one number. Games are another great way to teach important Math skills. I can't wait to hear about all your great summer adventures this Fall!
