My name is Julia Espinosa. I am the Preschool through Second Grade Speech-Language Pathologist at Garfield Elementary. The 2017-2018 school year marks by fourth year at Garfield Elementary! I love working in Forest Park and with your little ones. I received my undergraduate degree from Illinois State University and my masters degree from Governors State University.

What do Speech-Language Pathologist do?

Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP's) deal with a variety of school aged speech and language disorders. The list of childhood speech and language disorders include but are not excluded to: articulation, phonological disorders, apraxia, expressive and receptive language, pragmatic skills, impairments related to autism, and fluency.

What should I do if I suspect my child needs speech services?

All incoming preschool and kindergarten students are evaluated for speech and language skills. The SLP will contact parents or guardian with concerns with speech and language development. If you have additional concerns, parents should discuss them with their classroom teachers and the SLP. You are more then welcome to email or call me at anytime! Below are some links for typical speech sound development and express and receptive language skills.
