The women’s swim team has started their season with early practices and rewarding meets.
Last year, the team had multiple ladies who ranked in the top ten in the ECC for various races. This year’s group hopes to achieve similar goals this year, bringing freshmen along with them.
The Lady Raptors swim team has 13 members, some of whom already have high standings in the ECC. Bella Seither (10) is first in the conference in the 200-yard freestyle and the 50-yard freestyle. Molly Montgomery (9) is first in the conference in the 100-yard freestyle.
The AHS swimmers agreed that their practices are vital for improvement.
They “put in effort when going to practice because it will benefit [the team] a lot more and will help get [them] get better each day,” Seither said.
The swim team welcomes anyone—regardless of experience—to join the team’s exciting atmosphere.
“If you are scared to join swim because there aren't many people, just go for it. It is super fun and I enjoy it even though I never came from a swimming background,” Morgan Renner (12) said.
The Lady Raptors will continue to use the Turpin High School pool for practices and home meets, and their schedule consists of afternoon practices, plus an early morning swim every Friday.
“We almost always go from 4:30 to 6:30 pm; but on Fridays, we get up at 5 am. [meets] usually last 2 ½ to 3 hours,” Seither said.
The team consists of eight seniors this season, leaving many gaps to fill in seasons to come.
“I am going to miss the team the most. It is filled with so many great people and we all have a great time at practice. Our Turkey Berg meets are probably my favorite memories because they are only within our team and are focused on getting better times and having fun,” Renner said.
Continue to wish our ladies’ swim time good luck, and root for them during this winter season as they splash into success.
