The 2024 Anderson Football Team is picking up where they left off last year and looking to have an even better season this year. The 2023 Raptors made a memorable run, reaching the Division II State Final Four for the first time since 2008.
So far, the Raptors have outscored their opponents 248-20, setting high expectations for the rest of the season yet to come. They are currently 5-0, beating South Oldham, West Clermont, Lebanon, Little Miami, and Kings.
Anderson football is tied for first in the ECC alongside Winton Woods, who is projected to give the Raptors some competition.
Senior wide receiver Trace Jallick is leading the conference in receiving yards and contributing to the team's successful start to the season. Even with his individual success, he values the team's success most.
“We’ve bonded quickly as a team and everyone is [working toward] the same goal: make it to state,” Jallick (12) said.
As a senior, Jallick is responsible for playing a leadership role on the team. He makes a strong effort to serve in this role.
“I try to talk to everyone, cheer everyone on the same [amount], and just pick everyone up,” Jallick explained.
Team dynamics are a vital part of victory and achievements for the Raptors. Head Coach Evan Dreyer attests to the great team chemistry, as well as the great support from family and friends.
“We love being around each other to improve and win on Friday nights as well as having a great community around us,” Dreyer said.
Coach Dreyer also acknowledges the players for stepping into the leadership roles needed on the team.
“I think our senior leadership is improving. It’s a player-led team; our players have to lead. Our coaches have to take a step back and allow those players to lead with a vision [of getting back to regional finals] and to succeed,” Dreyer stated.
In order to be successful on the field, the athletes on the team must work hard off the field, such as in the weight room, and in bonding activities.
Freshman Brody Poetter is a new addition to the squad this year, scoring his first touchdown in his first varsity game against South Oldham. He spoke about his experience from playing in middle school compared to playing varsity football in high school.
“It’s a big change from middle school to high school… It's a faster-paced offense than I ever had at Nagel. Lifting is a lot more [demanding] as well,” Poetter (9) said.
As Coach Dreyer stated, Anderson’s football program is very appreciative of the great deal of support they’ve had from the community. Don’t hesitate to come out and cheer on the Raptors in their upcoming matchups. Each game has a theme, so make sure to show some school spirit with outfits and accessories!
