Anderson Raptors Wrestling started their season at Anderson on Wednesday, December 11, with a double dual against Oak Hills, Western Brown, and Madeira. The team has worked hard this offseason to prepare for a successful season.
“We lift two days a week, practice every day, and our practices aren’t lazy everyone is trying to get better,” wrestler Marshall Morency (11) said.
Throughout their training in anticipation of this season, there have been coaching changes. The players believe that these changes will benefit them. Varsity wrestler Joe Schnurstein (11) explains how these changes can further help the team later on in the season.
“New coaches and older guys [are] more enthusiastic. We’re just trying to have fun with it,” Schnurstein said.
Morency describes how the culture has changed with the addition of Andrew Sams to the coaching staff.
“The culture has definitely changed s...and with Mr. Sams coming in, it’s definitely got a lot better,” Morency said.
Schnurstein and Morency both had successful seasons last year, earning the titles of 1st team ECC, along with first in their weight classes. They hope for similar achievements this season for themselves, along with the rest of the team.
Preparation, hard work, and determination are all key factors to their success, but they also need the support from their community in their journey.
The Raptors wrestling schedule is posted on the ECC website for all to see, so there are no excuses to not show up in orange and black.
