The annual Halloween parade will take place on Tuesday October 31st during advisory; however, advisory is moved to the beginning of the school day. During the parade, seniors and staff get to show off their costume as they take a lap through the school. After, classmates will get to pick their favorite costumes based on different categories and later in the day the winners will be announced. Anderson has had this tradition for a very long time, and it never fails to create excitement throughout the building.
“My oldest daughter was here in 2003 and they were still doing [the parade],” Administrative Assistant to the Principal Mrs. Beltramo said.
It's a great way for everyone to get involved and for the seniors to have a memorable time together. All seniors get a chance to participate and everyone finds a way to have fun with it. The parade creates such a joyous environment and puts the spooky fall vibe into place.
“It's fun seeing everyone have a good time, it's fun seeing students who are quieter still go all out in their costumes,” counselor Mrs. Black said.
The Halloween parade is a privilege for the seniors to grasp a hold of their imagination and pick a fun costume. Every year, there are so many remarkable ideas that are never forgotten.
“The minions or Christmas tree with the presents [were past favorites]," Aaliyah Jones (12) said.
Last year, a staff contest was added to the list of AHS activities on Halloween. Staff members, grouped by department, compete for the best group costume. The counselors—who won last year and still have the “Orange and Black Cup” trophy—are prepared to bring it on again and go all out. Last year they went as famous WWE wrestlers, and won the title.
“We have really dug deep into some characters of classic movies [for this year],” Black said.
Halloween morning is such a memorable, fun day that student definitely don't want to miss. Make sure you are on time at school to watch this very exciting tradition and vote for your favorite costumes.
