units - same as ones, eg. for 43 , the 3 shows 3 ones, or 3 units
tens - the place value to the left of units. A number in this column shows how many groups of ten. eg. for 43 , the 4 shows 4 tens (40)
hundreds - the place value to the left of tens. A number in this column shows how many groups of hundreds. eg. for 129 , the 1 shows 1 hundred (100)
