Design Competition

THE COMPETITION
This competition seeks design proposals for an affordable, single family residence in a local area prone to flooding. The winning design will reimagine the basic design intent of the Farnsworth House.
All submissions become the property of the competition sponsors and will be publicized by IIT and local media, as well as posted on Real Estate Multiple Listing (MLS) websites. There is also the possibility that your submission may actually be built.
ELIGIBILITY
Open to any student in good standing at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Submissions from individuals or teams will be accepted.
PRIZE
The best design will be awarded the grand prize of $5000.
The top ten submissions will receive a prize of $1000 provided entries are on time and complete.
TIMELINE
Feb 19th, 2019 - Competition Announced.
March 14th, 2019 - Competition Materials Released. Optional meeting in Crown Hall at 6:00pm. Attendance is highly recommended.
March 23rd, 2019 - Final Proposals Due by Noon.
March 30th, 2019 - Winners Announced.
PROGRAM AND CRITERIA
Maximum size of indoor living space = 800 square feet (74 square meters).
Single story with the capability of future expansion upwards.
Basic structure to utilize 20’ x 8’ x 9’ and/or 40’ x 8’ x 9’ standard shipping containers.

Constructibility

Compliance with Submission Requirements
