2019 Board Nominees

These members have been nominated for the 2019 Folsom DGC Board. Each nominee has been asked to submit their picture and any information they would like voters to know about them.

PRESIDENT

Mike Berry

I would absolutely love to represent all members in our great disc golf club. I will be a voice for all players in our club and actively seek input from all members as to how we direct club funds and events. I have spent years pressing for local communities to embrace and build the sport in their areas including the approval of BT Collins. As a career educator, I have the ability to work with all personality types and am always hoping to teach new players the beauty of disc golf. I have years of experience throwing tournaments in our area and am a PDGA-approved official. I love to grow the sport and want to include the range of play from family and juniors, to professional tournaments. I have a Masters’ degree in Business Administration and can put it to use for our club! I thank and appreciate the current board and know that I can help build on what has already started in our area. Please vote for me for Folsom Club President.

VICE PRESIDENT

Nick Sears

My name is Nick Sears. I'm married, father of two beautiful girls, and have a full time day job. I played disc golf for the first time around 23 years ago thanks to a close friend of mine, Matt. I definitely have a competitive drive behind me when it comes to certain things and disc golf definitely fell into that category. Though I didn't start playing consistently for a while, I did play here and there for a while. Then once more friends started playing, it became more and more frequent. A little over 10 years ago was when I was much more involved and ended up playing in some tournaments, with my best friend, Travis, such as St Patrick's Classic - Am, Steady Ed Memorial Masters Cup - Am, and others. I always wanted to somehow work in disc golf. Finally, after introducing Justin and James to disc golf, we started the Disc Golf Show podcast. This has definitely made me more aware of everything disc golf. We made it a priority to try to include disc golf news worldwide as well as industry info as the more news we could spread, the better for the sport. Now, almost 5 and a half years later, I've been lucky enough to make some great contacts in the sport, business and athletes, as well as attend some big events, doing a live podcast as the St. Jude event a few years ago, and going to the recent San Francisco Open to watch the pros live. I'm always brainstorming of new ways to promote disc golf, in addition to creating more awareness of our beloved sport, and would love a more hands on chance to do so. Though there will always be those that feel like disc golf should stay small, I'm of the mindset that having disc golf be more mainstream will only push the envelope of how great it can be! There will always be things that can be improved upon, and I would love to be a part of the group that continues to grow disc golf, period. I'm always open to new ideas, constructive criticism, and welcome all opinions. I appreciate the nomination!

Scott Fairchild

BT Collins is my home course. I live just down the street and play BT two, sometimes three days a week. I’ve lived in Folsom for nearly 30 years and know many people in the community, including a current City of Folsom council member. Many weekends I’m out at BT Collins doing maintenance. I helped build and install all the new tee boxes you now see at BT, plus installed 2nd hole locations. To be elected to the FDGC board I genuinely feel you have to spend as much time as I do with the other club members to understand what BT Collins needs for maintenance and upgrades. Although I’m relatively new to the sport, I'm fully involved in all aspects of the club and course. I think I can bring a fresh perspective of ways to improve our club and course. I’m truly honored for the nomination.

TREASURER

Chris Salcone

I am grateful to have had the honor of being FDGC President but feel it is time for new leadership. I have decided to narrow my focus towards specific things that will help the club and will support the new president with lessons I’ve learned over the last three years. To that end, one BIG area for improvement is accurate and transparent accounting of club finances! Improved communication to club members about the Board workings will be achieved in several ways and I aim to focus on improving the Budget process, Account Balance reporting, Fundraising, and membership input in financial decisions.

I will dedicate my efforts to make Disc Golf in Folsom better in the coming years. I will use my experience with the city to uphold our good reputation and make advances towards more and better Disc Golf experiences in town, including I appreciate your support in the past and hope you will support me in a new, more refined role.

SECRETARY

Sarah Brown

I played my very first round of disc golf six months ago right here at BT Collins, and I was instantly hooked. Within a few weeks I was a proud lifetime member of FDGC. My kids and I spent the summer learning the sport and playing at local courses. I was able to participate in FDGC’s Family Expo, Putting Nights, and Aces Wild. These club events cemented my love of disc golf as I made new friends who understood my crazy new disc golf obsession and were willing to continue to teach me the sport.

I’m grateful to everyone who worked so hard to bring disc golf and this club to Folsom. I’d consider it a privilege to join the Board and help however I can. I’m particularly interested in the role of Secretary because I believe it is a good fit with my organizational and communicative proclivities. Prior to becoming a stay-at-home mom, I worked as a legal secretary and an office manager where I gained plenty of secretarial experience. I’d especially like to improve communication between the board and its members by establishing regularly scheduled meetings, making detailed board meeting minutes available online, and through social media updates and email newsletters. I’d also like to explore media and other opportunities to showcase the sport and our club in the community.

Thanks for your consideration!

GENERAL BOARD MEMBER

Chris Siepert

I was one of the “founding members” in 2016 before BT Collins was even being considered. I served as the Board’s very first President before handing the reins over due to some personal and family concerns. I have been playing disc golf for the last 5 years seriously and over 10 years total. You may have seen me at various Folsom events this year including Aces Wild (I was shagging discs in the kayak), and running Saturday Singles tag rounds. I love the sport of disc golf and am very passionate about growing the sport.

I am very happy to have served as a general board member this year and am so grateful for all the hard work of the dedicated club and board members. I would love to continue serving on the board and am extremely grateful to have been nominated for the role of Treasurer. I believe my prior experience as a bookkeeper of a restaurant I managed, as well as my own business will lend itself well to FDGC. I plan on providing monthly financial updates and ensuring transparency for members and the public. I want to ensure everyone knows exactly how much is coming in and where it has been allocated or spent. Improving communications between the Board and its members is also a high priority for 2019 if elected.

Doug Schulte

I started playing disc golf over 20 years ago, but in the last year I’ve played more than all those years combined. My love for the sport has grown so much this year. I’m playing about 3 times a week, and have made some great new friends. I would like to be the voice for others that have ideas & suggestions on course/club improvements. I often have my 2 boys with me and would like to see our club get juniors more involved in the sport.

Chris Mee

My name is Chris Mee. My wife and I have 2 daughters. I was born in Sacramento, and have either lived in/around Sacramento or in El Dorado county. I was introduced to the sport of disc golf just after I graduated high school in 2001. Since then, it’s always been on my mind. Disc golf is my favorite reason to travel and one of my very favorite ways to spend time and enjoy being on my feet. Since joining the board around 18 months ago, I’ve gotten to experience some wonderful things, like the installation and growth of BT Collins disc golf course, our annual Aces Wild tournaments, and various other events. It’s always my honor to dedicate whatever time I can spare to grow the sport and push for ever better disc golf greatness in the gorgeous city of Folsom. If I’m elected to the board this time around, I’ll continue to fight the good fight for FDGC and its members.
