For summer reading, parents can help students choose any text that is suitable for their reading level and interests.

Students are highly encouraged to choose a book from the 

South Carolina Junior Book Award list.

At the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year, 

ELA teachers will assign an activity based on the summer reading requirement.

If you are a rising 7th or 8th grader at PKMS and plan to read more than 15 books this summer, you will have the opportunity to check-out a few books from the PKMS library the last week of school. 

The PKMS library will not be open this summer,  you will return the books the first day of school on August 3, 2026.
