Early Childhood Education includes both Early Childhood Development Programs (ECDP) and Kindergarten. Whether the beginning of your child’s educational journey is in ECDP or Kindergarten, at the Fort McMurray Public School Division we provide experiences that support opportunities for learning, discovery, and developing friendships. We know that having your child enter school is a milestone that is met with many emotions that can include excitement and anticipation. Children in early learning programs are actively supported and encouraged every step of the way. The teachers, support staff, and consultants strive to meet the cognitive, language, social, emotional, and physical needs of children by providing carefully planned and developmentally appropriate programs in safe, respectful, and caring school environments.
Early learning classrooms are a wonderful way for children to discover what school is and to have fun while learning new things. The children’s natural curiosity and eagerness to learn are structured through organized activities and purposeful play. Children interact, imagine, experiment and explore to add to their knowledge, learn new skills, and practise what they have learned. Our programs focus on whole-child learning and meet each child where they are at developmentally, and ensure they are supported to meet the next challenges in their learning. This is accomplished with resources including our Early Literacy and Numeracy Frameworks, Teaching Strategies, Gold formative assessment, purposeful documentation, and the seven learning areas included in the Kindergarten Program Statement.
