FCS COVID-19

Tier Status

Green Tier

Floyd County Schools has NO active COVID-19 cases.

Recommendations:

    • FCS will teach and reinforce healthy hygiene practices.

    • FCS will intensify cleaning and disinfection efforts.

    • FCS required all staff and students get their temperatures checked before or immediately upon entering the building.

    • FCS employees shall wear a mask when within a 6 foot distance of any student. Students shall wear masks while moving or where 6 foot social distancing is not feasible, except for students in preschool and kindergarten or those with known health conditions that would make mask wearing difficult. Physician's statement required.

    • FCS will assign seats to all students riding district transportation, and family members will be asked to sit in proximity to one another. If a student has a temperature of 100.4 or above he/she will return home.

    • FCS students and staff who are feeling ill, or have a temperature of 100.4 or above are required to stay home, and advised to seek medical attention.


Yellow Tier

Floyd County Schools has NO active COVID-19 cases, however, the county has at least 1 active case.

Recommendations:

    • FCS will cancel all field trips, assemblies, and other large gatherings.

    • FCS will avoid mixing students in common areas.

    • FCS will limit the number of fans that are allowed to attend athletic events and recommend all to wear a mask.

    • FCS will require students to eat breakfast and lunch in the In-Person Learning classrooms rather than mixing in the cafeteria.

    • FCS will rotate Related Arts teachers into the In-Person Learning classroom utilizing contact tracing.

    • FCS will reduce congestion in the health office. For example, use the health office for the children with flu-like symptoms and a satellite location for first aid or medication distribution.

    • FCS will increase the space between desks to adhere to the 6 foot social distancing guidelines.

    • FCS will establish a quarantine room in the school, preferably close to the nurse's station.

    • FCS will cancel nonessential visitors.

    • FCS will suspend the use of lockers for middle and high schools.


Orange Tier

Floyd County Schools have 1 active case in a classroom, grade level, or school, and the county has many active cases.

Recommendations:

    • FCS will utilize face masks to limit the spread of viruses.

    • FCS will recommend that masks should be worn by all students and staff (except for students in preschool and kindergarten or those with known health conditions that would make mask wearing difficult. Physician's statement required.)

    • FCS will completely disinfect the classroom and utilize contact tracing to identify any other people/areas the students were in contact with while at school.

    • FCS will attempt to avoid closing the entire school if only one student tests positive for COVID-19. FCS will consider only sending home the rest of the students in the classroom in which the positive case was present.


Red Tier

Floyd County Schools have multiple active cases in a classroom, grade level, or school, and the county has substantial cases. (Full Online Learning)

Recommendations:

    • FCS will consider extended classroom, grade level and/or school building closures.

    • FCS will collaborate with local health officials to make decisions related to the implementation of extended school dismissals.

    • FCS will cancel all extra-curricular group activities, school-based after school programs, and large events (field trips and sporting events).

    • FCS will convert all students to Online Learning and/or Non-Traditional Instruction.

    • FCS will make every effort to continue weekly meal service for all students.


NOTE: There may be times where a class or grade level is in a different tier than the rest of the school. For example, school is Green Tier but 2-3 students in Mrs. Smith’s 3rd grade class shows symptoms (high fever, etc.). That class would be moved immediately to Red Tier and begin Online Learning.
