As the Class of 2026 prepares to move on to the next stage of life, Zeid Yousef reflects on his time managing advanced coursework and participating in the Flour Bluff Chess Club.
“I’m in one extracurricular, chess. I love the people there. They're very nice, even if I don’t know some people there they have a lot of things in common with me,” said Yousef. “The jokes make chess the most memorable, anytime we were doing chess we have a whole suite of like a comedic root. It ends up being funny no matter what.”
While high school is typically described as some of the best years of our lives, everyone has a rough patch they must see through.
“The biggest hardship was definitely junior year as a whole,” said Yousef. “I had to take multiple AP classes and dual credit college classes, it was very difficult, especially the writing. It had gotten so bad I had to switch to an online class cause I didn’t fit into the teaching environment, but switching to a different class really helped and let me pass.”
Yousef said the support of his teachers played a huge role through high school.
“If I had to say the best teacher of all time, Mr. Gain. He left during junior year but the second I had him freshman year it just had a great experience all together. He actually brought a positive experience and I don’t think I’d be as confident myself if I didn’t have Mr. Gains class,” Yousef said.
While senior year flies by, Yousef looks forward to his future plans.
“I’m gonna go to the same college as my sister at Texas A&M. I want to major in marketing, I feel like it fits me. I know a lot of people think I don’t socialize a lot, but I’m pretty beloved in my class cause people know me so I think I could excel at advertising a product.”
Yousef intends to have a creative mindset during these last few months, and hopes to leave behind a positive legacy at Flour Bluff.
As Yousef reflects on his time at Flour Bluff, he leaves the underclassmen with a few words of wisdom.
“If I had to give advice make sure you don't overwork yourself, that is just the basics you need to know. Like how I overworked myself junior year, but also push your boundaries at the same time.”
