Mason Evans is a senior at Flour Bluff High School. Over the past four years he has been an active member of the challenge team and varsity tennis team.
“[My favorite part] is the community here, everyone knows everyone,” Evans said.
Evans has lived and gone to Flour Bluff his whole life, making him a very supported member of this community.
“For challenge, a lot of my teachers want to go so they’re all fighting for tickets. Everyone wants to go to things,” Evans said.
Evans played a very supportive role in this year's tennis team making state finals.
“[Making state] was a great feeling. It was something we’ve never done before, so we got to experience that all the first time together,” Evans said. “I didn’t win my matches at the regional tournament, but I was showing out and cheering, I would say that’s the reason my partner won his singles match.”
Over the years, Evans has struggled to find balance between school and his extracurriculars.
“[My biggest hardship] has been juggling my assignments and extracurriculars, but it’s been pretty smooth,” Evans said.
Currently, Evans is a national merit finalist.
“It was pretty cool, it’ll help you get scholarship offers from colleges for being a finalist. So, like Tech would give me a full ride if I wanted to go to Tech,” Evans said.
Evans has had his fair share of teachers over the years, but there was one that made a lasting impact on his high school career.
“Mrs. Pshigoda, I hated English before I took Mrs. Pshigoda’s class. You learn a lot, and we read a lot of literature that's important,” Evans said.
Evans has pushed through high school with the mindset of enjoying what he is doing, and hopes to pass this down to younger generations.
“Don’t take it too seriously, it’s important but just do your work and don't worry too much about it,” Evans said.
Evans plans to attend A&M College Station to study accounting.
“My aunt was an accountant so I like seeing what she does,” Evans said. “I think I could do it.”
As the year wraps up, Evans looks forward to seeing where he ends up after graduation and is excited to see where his life will take him.
