Luke Ruiz has attended Flour Bluff since ECC years, as his final months with the community come to a close he reflects on his journey and future plans. Ruiz is a two year member of Hornets for Christ and is grateful for his position in the club.
“I’m a leader for the club. Basically at the end we hold small groups where we ask them questions just about the message, and sometimes we’ll even prepare our own message to speak about," Ruiz said. “The club really keeps me consistent at indulging God's word.”
As a long time member of the community, Ruiz shares his favorite part of attending school at Flour Bluff.
“Honestly the teachers like Mrs. Stewart, Mr. Johnson, my physics teacher, and Mr. Gillespy for sure,” Ruiz said. “They’re just, overall nice and care about what students thought and what they needed to learn.”
Ruiz has taken advanced courses all four years of high school, sometimes finding it difficult to stay on top of it all.
“I’ve had hardships just staying on top of my grades,” Ruiz said. “But I overcame that by always just staying focused with the lord first, and that always smoothed things out.”
Outside of school, Ruiz enjoys working on his car, playing guitar, and going to the gym.
“I got started with the car hobby when I got my car two years ago, the guitar one was earlier this year just because I had an old one and I wanted to pick it up,” Ruiz said. “For the gym I just started with my friends. I would say the gym is my favorite one because I still do it with my friends.”
Looking into the near future, Ruiz intends to study at Texas A&M Kingsville to focus on mechanical engineering.
“I chose this path because it will help me lean into automatic engineering, which is something I really enjoy doing," Ruiz said.
As Ruiz reflects on his time at Flour Bluff, he leaves the underclassman with a few positive words.
“ Know that all your stresses can be taken away in an instant by Christ and don’t make things seem as big as they are,” Ruiz said. “ Just don’t overstress yourself.”
