For senior Alexandra Garza, Flour Bluff High School has been defined by connection, leadership, and service. Having attended Flour Bluff for all four years, Garza says the environment and sense of community are what made her experience meaningful.
“I think I love the environment,” Garza said. “I love the people, the culture, and all the traditions.”
What sets Flour Bluff apart for her is the close-knit atmosphere that brings students together.
“We’re separate from all other high schools, so we have our own type of relationship with others,” Garza said. “It really feels like a community.”
Garza has stayed actively involved throughout high school, serving as president of the Interact Club and competing as a varsity golfer. She has participated in these activities since her freshman year, balancing leadership responsibilities with athletics.
One of her most meaningful experiences comes from her role in Interact Club, particularly hosting the annual Special Hearts Prom.
“That’s definitely the highlight of my year,” Garza said. “You get to see so many people happy, and it’s just a really good time.”
Through her involvement, Garza says she has learned important lessons about humility and teamwork.
“It gives me a sense of humility,” Garza said. “I know what we can do if we just come together and put some work into it.”
In the classroom, Garza enjoys English, where discussion and interpretation play a central role.
“I like English because there isn’t always one definite right answer,” Garza said. “It’s very point-of-view based.”
She also credits a mentor who helped guide her during high school.
“I would say Coach Rodgers.” Garza said. “He was one of our old golf coaches, and he genuinely helped mentor me throughout my high school career.”
While Garza says she hasn’t focused much on academic honors, her impact has been felt through her leadership, service, and commitment to others. As she prepares to graduate, she leaves behind a legacy rooted in compassion, collaboration, and making the most of opportunities to serve.
Through her dedication to Interact Club, her work as a student-athlete, and her appreciation for the Flour Bluff community, Alexandra Garza has made her mark as a leader who brings people together.
