Senior William Russell has been a proud member of the Flour Bluff Community for many years. His activities within the school community consist of the Marching Band and National Honor Society.
Russell showcases his musical talents on the trumpet. He has been an avid member of the band program since 6th grade. With the exposure of his band directors, he learned to participate in different competitions, such as TMEA Region Band and UIL Solo and Ensemble.
Russell’s favorite high school memory was last year's band banquet. He was moved hearing the speeches of his friends, now proud graduates, and was grateful to watch them get recognition that was well deserved. While the banquet was fun, these are not the reasons it is his favorite memory. This memory represents what is most important to Russell: Making his last year filled with lighthearted recollections of his time here.
“I enjoy doing ensembles with my fellow members because we all put in the work to learn and master a musical piece together,” Russell said. “Hoping we will advance to state together.”
Out of the many teachers at Flour Bluff he explains that, “Teachers are everything.” He is particularly grateful for Mrs. Pshigoda, the National Honor Society Sponsor, who taught Russell in dual credit English when he was a sophomore.
“I’ve used what I learned in her class, studying, writing, and overall how to have a better work ethic throughout my time in high school. She has really helped prepare me for college and prepare me for classes outside of highschool,” Russell said, “It has changed the way I approach writing and has significantly improved my ability to research any given topic and build a strong work ethic.”
As a student who strives to go above and beyond, he has taken many grade weighted courses to challenge himself with his studies.
“One thing I’ve seen throughout my classes is the helpfulness the students provide for one another,” Russell said. “Nobody is focused on just a test score, but focused on making sure their fellow classmates understand the material and get help when needed.”
Russell’s college plans involve applying to Texas Tech, majoring in Animal Science to help achieve his goal of becoming a veterinarian.
“I’ve always loved caring for animals,” Russell said, “Science has also been a big interest in mine, so I picked a career included two of my biggest passions”
Making senior year filled with lighthearted recollections of his time attending at Flour
Bluff is the most important to Russell.
“I will be disheartened to leave behind those who have made my highschool experience the most memorable, but excited to see where everyone ends up in the future.”
As the year continues, Russell ponders what he wants to leave behind in this community. His hope is to pass down a positive and memorable legacy when he graduates, “I want people to remember my CPH spirit.”
