Senior Violet Valdez has been attending FBISD schools since Kindergarten. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, and moved to Corpus Christi right before starting Kindergarten.
During her time at Flour Bluff High School she has dedicated her time to the yearbook program.
“I’ve been in Yearbook since sophomore year; I’m a section editor, basically the second highest position where if the editors in chief need help making decisions they come to me.” Valdez said.
Being a part of a difficult extracurricular has helped shape Valdez as a person.
“I think I’ve been put under pressure because of Yearbook and I think I've learned how to deal with it and work through it to find a solution.” Valdez said.
Having a mentor in high school can be really helpful during a time of growth and learning. Valdez dedicates her successes to her most important mentors during her time at Flour Bluff.
“Definitely Mrs. Brandewie because I’ve had her all four years of high school, Mr. Leal he was kind of the one that pushed me to do AP or Advanced classes,” Valdez said.
Outside of school she focuses on astronomy, specifically focusing on the moon.
“I like stargazing and using my telescope to look up at the stars and more specifically the moon, I always look up all different phases.” Valdez said.
Valdez first was interested in astronomy because she wanted to become an aerospace engineer, later changing her focus to astrophysics.
“I wanted to be an aerospace engineer, and then I got less interested in the engineering part and more on space, so then I wanted to be an astronomer more interested in space, the moon and galaxies.” Valdez said.
After graduation. She has set her sights on Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi majoring in physics for her first year and then transferring to Texas A&M University-College Station where she plans to be an astrophysicist.
“Hopefully everything will go smoothly and I won’t go through any drastic changes.” Valdez said.
As senior year comes to an end Valdez focuses on what she wants her legacy to be after her time at Flour Bluff High School.
“In Yearbook, everyone always said I was the editor that was easy to talk to,” Valdez said. “I want to leave that with future editors, be the person who people can talk to.”
