Tre Winters has attended Flour Bluff ISD since 3rd grade. As his senior year is coming to a close, he reflects on his high school journey and preparing for his new chapter of life. He has been involved in athletics, as a member of the Varsity Swim Team, music, as a member of the Varsity Choir, and academics, as a member of the National Honor Society (NHS).
“Balancing everything can be tough, and the stress can be overwhelming, but the relief I feel after pushing through it is unmatched,” Winters said. “I keep Philippians 4:13 close, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” which helps me stay grounded and focused.”
In swimming, he has been a member of the Swim & Dive program since seventh grade. His main event was the 500 Freestyle, but he also swam the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke.
“I love the camaraderie and funny moments with the team,” Winters said.
He has spent his four years of highschool in both the Men’s and Mixed Choirs at Flour Bluff. His choir achievements consist of being a 3-year Texas Music Scholar Recipient, a 2-year Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Choir Area Candidate, and a 3-year Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest participant.
“[I have been] an officer for [the highschool choir] three of those years, [which] has been rewarding,” Winters said. “The best part is the feeling after a great performance when we all take a deep breath together.”
Beyond his school activities, he serves his community through the National Honor Society and as an instructor at Lumampao Martial Arts.
“In NHS, I’ve enjoyed giving back to the community through service projects,” Winters said. “[And] as an assistant instructor at Lumampao Martial Arts, teaching younger students has been fulfilling since earning my black belt.”
His passion for music also extends to his church, Asbury Methodist.
“Singing with the Praise Team brings me so much joy, especially when we come together in worship.” Winters said.
Being surrounded by the support of the Flour Bluff Community through his journey has been motivating when even if he feels otherwise, inspiring him to push forward through the hard endeavors.
“The energy of the Flour Bluff Community is incredible,” Winters said. “Whether it’s a competition, performance, or test, everyone gives their best, and the enthusiasm is contagious.”
With graduation around the corner, he plans to attend Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi to major in Criminal Justice. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, he plans to go to law school and eventually become a lawyer.
Moving forward, he hopes to take his experiences as a guide to a successful career.
“I hope the lessons I’ve learned here will stay with me,” Winters said. “The friendships and growth I’ve had will always be a part of who I am.”
