Talia Rodriguez, a Flour Bluff High School senior, is making the most of her final year. She is actively involved in various extracurricular activities such as the Varsity Volleyball team and National Art Honor Society. Join us as we read into Rodriguez’s journey, exploring her achievements and future aspirations!
On the court, Rodriguez has dedicated most of her time to the Varsity Volleyball team, taking on the role of captain. Her leadership extends beyond the court as she plays alongside her younger sister and her mother, who is their coach. This family dynamic showcases how volleyball has strengthened her bonds in many ways.
“I am a rightside/pin hitter. Playing with my younger sister and having my mom as our coach has really brought us closer together as a family,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez cherishes the times spent with her volleyball team, especially the fun they shared off the court.
“After we made it to the regional tournament for volleyball, we had a dance competition in our hotel. It was a great way to end our season and say goodbye to our seniors,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez credits her mom as her biggest inspiration and mentor. Her mom’s understanding of the game and unwavering support have been crucial in Talia’s development as both a player and a person.
“I love talking to her about the game of volleyball so it’s nice to have someone who understands and is able to talk with me about the game,” Rodriguez said. “She also humbles me and is my number one supporter.”
Beyond her athletic abilities, Rodriguez thrives as a member of the National Art Honor Society (NAHS). Her involvement in the organization has allowed her to express her creativity even at the state level.
“I compete in art competitions and community service for the school. I’ve made it to UIL State Art called VASE two years in a row,” Rodriguez said.
Balancing academics and extracurricular activities can be challenging, but she finds ways to balance her workload. Her approach to time management and dedication to her studies have enabled her to excel academically while pursuing her passions.
“I try to stay ahead as much as possible with my work. Although it’s a bit difficult sometimes, I push through,” Rodriguez said.
In her free time, Talia busies herself with her hobbies, which provide her with relaxation and a creative outlet. She is able to unwind and explore her artistic side.
“I enjoy spending extra time painting, doing crafts, and diving into a good book,” Rodriguez said.
Looking ahead, she has already decided on her college. Her decision reflects her commitment to both her sport and her education.
“I plan on attending Northeastern Oklahoma A&M to continue my academics and volleyball career,” Rodriguez said.
Her story is evident of her drive and hard work because of the supportive environment at Flour Bluff, impacting her high school experience. She hopes her journey inspires other hornets to follow their dreams with dedication.
