September is Suicide Awareness Month

Suicide is not an uncommon occurrence. In fact, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, in 2016, 45,000 people died of suicide. However, knowing the warning signs and knowing where to go can substantially decrease these deaths. The warning signs of suicide can be anything, but the most common sign is giving away valuables, believing the world would be better without them in it and isolating themselves. If you notice anyone showing these warning signs please confront them or tell a family member/adult. If you are showing these signs and are feeling hopeless, knowing who to talk to can help you. Being able to see the warning signs and helping yourself and others can significantly decrease the national suicide rate.
